Unit price = total price ÷ quantity. If a 24-ounce bottle costs $6, it costs $0.25 per ounce. If a 32-ounce bottle costs $7.20, it costs $0.225 per ounce.

How to compare unit prices without getting fooled
Unit pricing turns different package sizes into a fairer comparison. The trick is choosing the right unit and comparing products that do the same job.
The basic calculation
Choose a useful unit
- Food and liquids: ounce, pound or liter.
- Laundry: load, not just bottle size.
- Paper goods: sheet, while checking sheet size and ply.
- Disposable items: individual item or use.
Do not compare unit prices blindly. Concentration, quality, size and waste can make two products meaningfully different.
